Leprechaun Days: Mid-Summer Faire is at the center of weekend activities

Published By: Jeff Mores, managing editor, Rosemount TownPages

The first seven days of Leprechaun Days are in the books and the eighth is already under way. Friday marks the start of the final and arguably most popular weekend of Rosemount’s annual citywide summer celebration.

The festivities get going Friday with the ever-popular Puppets in the Park for children and follow with an evening full of fun and games. The Rosemount American Legion will hold a Steak Fry Under the Stars at 5 p.m. and blues musician Kurt Jorgensen will perform at the Central Park Amphitheater stage beginning at 7 p.m. Rosemount residents may want to plan to arrive at Central Park a few hours prior to the live music, however, as what has evolved into one of the most popular Leprechaun Days events of them all kicks off. Over the years, the Mid-Summer Faire has grown into one of the best-attended Leprechaun Days attractions. The Mid-Summer Faire is a collection of food, rides, events, games and live entertainment that will serve as the center of activity this weekend. The Mid-Summer Faire is scheduled from 5 to 11:30 p.m. Friday and will continue 1 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday. The event will encompass all of Central Park, located just west of Rosemount City Hall. “We have approximately 30 vendors this year, the carnival is back and just about anything you can think of,” said Tom Schuster of the Rosemount Parks and Recreation Department. “It’s always been a big draw and we’re expecting it to be huge again this weekend.” Mid-Summer Faire vendors will sell everything form hair care products to Pampered Chef supplies. Local chiropractors will offer their services and a Rosemount massage therapist will provide free chair massages. There will be plenty of other businesses present as well as a long line of food vendors, serving up mini donuts, calzones and even pork chops on a stick.

In addition to the food vendors and carnival rides, the Central Park Amphitheater has live music planned throughout the weekend and the Rosemount Jaycees will host a beer garden for adults. The annual Grand Day Parade will kick things off on Saturday, followed by a number of events across the city. The fireworks display is scheduled for 10 p.m. Saturday and those at the Mid-Summer Faire will have a leg up on securing a good seat as the Central Park lawn is as good a seat as any in the city. Erickson Park is also a recommended place to view the fireworks display.

Closing Act
Anyone who is up for more come Sunday will want to make their way back to Central Park for a live music performance by Rosemount’s own Legacy at 7 p.m. Legacy has made quite a name for itself over the years as an Irish folk band.

What better way to close out the 2004 Leprechaun Days festivities than with an evening of live Irish song and dance?
