Relay For Life:

The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life is a unique celebration of life in honor and in memory of those whose lives have been touched by cancer. Rosemount’s Relay For Life will take place July 15-16 at Rosemount High School track from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m.. The public is encouraged to come and check out this event. All processes goes to the American Cancer Society.

The annual Rosemount Relay For Life is to begin at 6 p.m. Friday, July 15, and it is going to be bigger and better than ever.

According to organizers of this year’s Rosemount Relay For Life, Thirty-four teams had registered to participate by the time this newspaper went to print. That number is up significantly from last year, when just eight teams registered for the event.

Several prominent people in the community, including Rosemount High School principal Greg Clausen and former RHS varsity baseball coach Craig Kusick, were recently diagnosed with the disease. Awareness is up in Rosemount this year and people are getting involved to make a difference.

On Friday, Rosemount area residents will gather at Irish Stadium for the Rosemount Relay For Life, in an attempt to support those they know who are battling the disease, and to honor those who have died as a result of cancer. The event will begin with an opening ceremony in which John Brickley, an RHS student diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma during the 2004-05 school year, will deliver a short speech.

Brickley will then lead a Survivor’s Lap, in which Rosemount area residents who are cancer survivors are invited to participate.

The Rosemount Relay For Life will begin following the Survivor’s Lap, with team members circling the track through the night until 6 a.m. Saturday, July 16. Participants have sought out sponsors and others to support them for every lap they complete. There will also be a Silent Lap, in which luminaria bags circling the track will be lit in memory or celebration of individuals who are battling or have lost their lives to cancer.

Proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society for cancer research, education and awareness.

In addition to the relay, those who participate in the Rosemount Relay For Life will be treated to a music DJ and free massages from professionals at Rosemount’s Stroke for Folks. The Rosemount Fire Department will be on hand with one of its fire trucks and a smoke house to entertain children.
